TROY BROSNAN BOUNCES BACK IN LENZERHEIDE
Australian Downhill Champion Troy Brosnan has run short of a podium for the first time this season at Lenzerheide, Switzerland over the weekend for Round 5 of the 2016 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
The countryside mountain hosted Round 5 with conditions that were similar to those Brosnan grew up on.
WE MADE IT TO LENZERHEIDE WITH PERFECT WEATHER AND A TRACK THAT WAS A LOT LIKE RIDING AT HOME, DRY AND DUSTY.
Brosnan struggled with the first practice session and rushed to make adjustments prior to qualifying.
DAY 1 PRACTICE WAS A HARD ONE FOR ME, I COULDN’T QUITE FEEL COMFORTABLE ON THE COURSE AND JUST WASN’T MAKING THE RIGHT CHANGES TO MY BIKE SETUP.
The high valleys of Lenzerheide hosted no shortage of rough terrain, with Brosnan been lucky enough to walk away from a nasty crash in the second practice session without any major injuries.
I WAS KEEN TO START TO RIDE LOOSE AND HANG IT OUT A BIT, I CAME INTO THE TOP ROCK GARDEN ON THE SAME LINE AS YESTERDAY BUT DIDN’T GET THE JUMP AT THE END OF THE ROCKS AND WENT FOR A MASSIVE OVER THE BARS! I GOT BANGED UP SUPER BAD BUT WAS REALLY LUCKY TO NOT GET INJURED AT ALL!
Brosnan had a smooth run in Qualifying, with no issues staying upright and finishing 6th.
FOR QUALIFYING THAT DAY I JUST RODE A SMOOTH RUN AND GOT DOWN THE TRACK THE BEST I COULD FOR 6TH PLACE.
In the lead up to the race, Brosnan lowered the front end of the bike by 1mm for more front wheel traction.
RACE DAY HAD ARRIVED AND I WAS FEELING A BIT BEATEN UP FROM THE CRASH BUT COULD RIDE WITH NO PAIN. AFTER QUALIFYING I LOWERED MY FRONT END ON MY BIKE AND IT REALLY HELPED DURING MY PRACTICE RUNS! I COULD ATTACK THE TRACK MORE AND JUST FELT COMFORTABLE FINALLY.
However the Specialized rider’s Race Run did not go to plan, making several mistakes and losing time as a result.
RACE RUN I WAS FEELING REALLY CONFIDENT THAT I COULD THROW DOWN A GREAT TIME, I HIT THE FIRST CORNER REALLY HARD AND GOT STOOD UP A BIT AND MADE A LITTLE MISTAKE WHICH THEN MADE ME RIDE REALLY TIGHT THAT WHOLE WAY DOWN AND I COULD ONLY MANAGE 6TH PLACE.
Three remaining rounds of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, Mont-Sainte-Anne, Vallnord and Val Di Sole.
Round 6 of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup will be held in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada on the 6-8 of August.
