TROY BROSNAN CLAIMS GOLD AT CANNONBALL MTB FESTIVAL
Australian Downhill Champion Troy Brosnan has claimed gold in the GoPro Australian Downhill Open Race at the Cannonball MTB Festival at Thredbo Resort over the weekend.
The well renowned event saw Brosnan riding against a mix of amateurs and the world’s best on the New South Wales track.
Brosnan has ridden every year at Thredbo since his first year on the mountain in 2007, and kicked off his 2016 campaign on Friday during practice.
PRACTICE WAS PRETTY GOOD, IT RAINED HARD THE NIGHT BEFORE SO THE TRACK WAS PRETTY MUDDY SO IT STARTED DRYING OUT AND GETTING PRETTY GRIPPY TOWARDS THE END OF THE DAY. I DID A FAIR FEW RUNS ON THE TRACK JUST HAVING FUN AND RIDING WITH SOME FRIENDS, SO IT WAS PRETTY GOOD.
There was a second practice on Saturday prior to the Seeding Run, where Brosnan finished 1st.
I FEEL LIKE I GOT A BIT FASTER AND FOUND SOME NEW LINES, AND KIND OF FOUND MY RAW SPEED FROM WORLD CUP & WORLD CHAMPS. SEEDING WENT REALLY WELL AND I ENDED UP 1ST WHICH PUT ME IN A GOOD POSITION FOR RACE DAY.
Brosnan put in a huge effort to claim the Elite DH Men’s final on Sunday, establishing his leading over the rest of the field by 5 seconds.
I WAS PRETTY EXCITED TO HAVE A BIG CRACK, THERE IS A BIG FIRE ROAD UP THE TOP, I SPRINTED HARD AND TRIED TO GO AS FAST AS I COULD UP THE TOP BEFORE THE SINGLE TRACK. I JUST DIDN’T LEAVE ANYTHING ON THE TABLE AND WENT ALL OUT FROM THE START, THE RUN WAS REALLY GOOD, NO MISTAKES OR ANYTHING AND BREATHING PRETTY HARD. IT WAS A LONG TRACK AND IT MADE THINGS PRETTY DIFFICULT BUT I WAS HAVING FUN AND GOT TO THE BOTTOM AND ENDED UP WINNING, JUST STOKED TO HAVE A GOOD RACE!
Brosnan will now relax during with some downtime over the holidays before the first National Round on January 14th & 15th in Awaba State Forest, NSW.
